I was at the Warehouse 9/16/71 show & it is still the greatest concert I've ever been to & I've seen all the greats. The loud whistle between songs is me.
that is ABBsolutely outstanding. I'm on record that this is my favorite full show of the original Allman Brothers Band. I am listening today for your whistle.
The ABB played some legendary shows in NOLA, particularly at the Warehouse--which hosted a shit-ton of other great bands over the years.
You way overthink things. Dreams was basically a vehicle for Duane only. If you listen to its evolution, they try to add bigger parts for Dickey. And some versions I think they succeed. Certainly the SUNY Stonybrook in September 71 they do.
Dickey talks in an interview about the sound of two cats fighting. So there just wasn’t room for both guitarists and Berry has his shining part in the middle as Duane changes to slide.
I find the experiment with a bigger role for Dickey quite pleasant. But the band didn’t, or at least Duane didn’t think so and setlists were his thing.
