Bob I want to put a marker at the old Painters Mill site in Owings Mills MD where the original 6 members of the ABB played their last show with Duane. Sadly it's now a BJs Club. My ultimate goal is to take over the BJs location and turn it back into an entertainment venue and museum. Possibly a MD Hall of fame kind of thing....Billie Holiday, Chick Webb, Zappa, John Waters for Hairspray and many more. They can have another BJ's anywhere. This site is unique and has a significant entertainment history. As a child I saw acts there with my parents like Sammy Davis Jr & Liberace...during my college years it was Weather Report and more.
I'm a big fan of markers. Had no idea Painter's Mill was that significant, but then again, the places the ABB played in those early days were some of the country's most accessible venues.
The ABB played all size venues. Painters Mill was magical because it was in the round. You were never more than 15-20 rows from the band. When I saw Weather Report there, they set up facing each other...so they could clearly see what the other was playing. The drummer Chester Thompson, (a Baltimore native) could see percussionist Alyiro Lima and the band... it was totally badass. I was like 3 rows back. (sadly no camera)
